Side effects of CBD treatments

There are two main cannabinoids in the Cannabis plant, CBD and THC. Both of these compounds have different traits and affect our bodies differently. THC has some neuroprotective properties and some health benefits but the number of side effects it contains outnumbers the benefits. This is the component that is illegal in most countries. On the other hand CBD has countless advantages with fewer side effects. Let’s explore the side effects of using CBD oil.

Reduced P450 enzyme activity

According to an NCBI (National Center for Biotechnology Information) study, consuming CBD oil can result in decreased Glycoprotein. It prevents the activity of liver enzyme, Cytochrome P450. These enzymes helps the body metabolise pharmaceutical drugs and hence prevents the curing process.   If someone intakes a high dose of this oil, the process of metabolising the drugs inside the body stops for a while. However, this side effect is notvery harmful as it only affects the metabolising process as much as eating a handful of grapefruit. So this is a minor disadvantage but it is recommended to consult your physician before using it.

Dry Mouth

Dry mouth is another side effect of using CBD. According to a study by Argentinian researchers in 2006, the two CBD receptors (type 1 and type 2) are found in submandibular glands which produce saliva. After administering CBD oil these receptors are activated and lead to dry mouth. You feel dry sensations inside your mouth and may feel thirsty.

Parkinson’s disease and increased tremor

A high dose of CBD in patients suffering from Parkinson disease worsens tremor and badly affects the muscle movement. However there are differences of opinion among researchers. Another group considers it safe and counts it among safe drugs for Parkinson patients. Patients should first consult their physicians before using it.

Low Blood Pressure

Another side effect of taking CBD oil is a drop in blood pressure. The BP sees a small drop after couple of minutes of entering your body. So you should be careful using it if you are a patient of low blood pressure.

A higher dose of CBD oil can cause lightheadedness which is associated with low blood pressure. This symptom is not dangerous and only lasts for few minutes. The good thing is that it is automatically treated if you drink a cup of coffee or tea.

However CBD is an agent which stirs our emotions and induces wake but it is associated with drowsiness as well. A higher dose of CBD oil can lead to drowsiness which can become deadly if your operate a machine or drive a vehicle afterwards.
